Banana freckle was detected in the Northern Territory in May 2022 prompting an emergency biosecurity response to delimit, contain and eradicate the disease. A response plan has been enacted under the Emergency Plant Pest Response Deed and agreed to by parties to the Deed, namely the Commonwealth Government, states and territories, and industry parties – the Australian Banana Growers Council and Greenlife Industry Australia. The NTG DITT is the lead agency responsible for the implementation and operational management of the response. The NTG DITT requires a suitable supplier or suppliers to provide services for the removal, treatment and disposal of banana plants at selected infected premises in the greater Darwin region, while adhering to required biosecurity protocols. Training and support in biosecurity requirement will be provided by the response team upon award of the contract.
