Due to the recent flood events within the Barkly Region, Kiana Road was closed and urgent repair and maintenance grading are required to reinstate the road to its preexisting condition. These activities form part of the Immediate Reintstatement Works (IRW) program to restore trafficability and ensure road-user safety following extensive flood damage under Event 1258 - Barkly Region Secondary and Local Roads Emergency Reinstatement. The scope includes, but is not limited to: Maintenance grading to remove surface defects including corrugation and depressions. Rectify localised pavement failures such as soft spot, washouts and erosions. Restoration of road, including table drains and shoulders where affected. Supply, placement, and grading of materials to re-establish a safe running surface. All works are to be undertaken with the intent of restoring safe access as efficiently as practicable, returning the road to its pre-flood condition.
