The Palmerston Waste Water Treatment Facility (PWWTF) was built in 1981 for a treatment design capacity of 50,000 EP (equivalent population). In the 40 years of service the population of Palmerston has grown to capacity and there has not been any capital upgrades to increase treatment capacity. Recommendations from the master plan for the 15 year planning horizon include the construction of an additional treatment pond with associated changes to the hydraulic operation of the existing ponds.
