The Product Integrity Branch of Biosecurity Tasmania within the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), requires a new Primary Produce Traceability (PPT) system. The PPT Program is responsible for administering legislation related to the movement of livestock and other primary produce via systems like the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS). The program is advancing major reforms, including new Biosecurity (Livestock Traceability) Regulations 2024 (Tranche 1) and future regulations for other produce (Tranche 2), supporting the transition to the Biosecurity Act 2019 (Tas). Currently, these functions rely on the outdated Tasmanian Agricultural Property Database (TAPDB), which supports services like the PIC register, tag ordering, brand and earmark systems, and PRAS (Property Registration and Amendment System). However, TAPDB lacks the capacity to support the new regulatory and strategic requirements. The consultancy will undertake a solutions discovery process and facilitate a system RFT process to ensure that the above-mentioned challenges are addressed.
