The Major Crash Investigation Unit (MCIU) purchased ARAS software for $50,000 in 2014. Some years later, ARAS was acquired by Faro. Faro have continued to support ARAS software for a number of years (ARAS 360 now called Faro HD), but as of 1 June 2021, the Faro HD software reached end of life and no support of the software is provided. MCIU require a new software package and are seeking to upgrade the diagramming, reconstruction and animation software to Faro Zone 3D Advanced (this programme is the next iteration of Faro HD). The Faro Zone software has been vetted by ICT and has successfully run on PFES-networked computers. Faro Zone 3D Advanced is able to meet the current and future needs of MCIU by provision of the following: 2D maps and diagrams Recording of precise measurements and crash reconstructions Creation of animations Integration of 3D cloud-points and models generated by both laser scanners and photogrammetry Creation of 3D presentations for court Faro have offered substantial discounts as an incentive to upgrade to fully supported Faro software
