# Aged Care Services - Specialist Dementia Care Program (SDCP)
The Specialist Dementia Care Program (SDCP) is an Australian Government initiative, managed by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, designed to provide transitional residential support for individuals with very severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia who cannot be adequately supported by mainstream aged care services. The program aims to reduce or stabilise symptoms, enabling participants to transition to less intensive care settings.
## 🎯 Opportunity Overview
The SDCP intends to establish 35 units nationwide, with one in each of Australia's 31 Primary Health Network (PHN) regions. Phase Two of the program seeks to identify eligible aged care providers to establish the remaining units through targeted competitive and closed non-competitive grant opportunities. Total available funding for this phase is **$5,500,000**.
## 📝 Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible, organisations must:
* Be specifically invited to apply by the Department of Health and Aged Care (via email or a "Your Aged Care Newsletter" article, depending on the approach).
* Be an Approved Aged Care Provider.
For targeted competitive opportunities, eligible organisations within designated PHN regions may apply. For closed non-competitive opportunities, only invited organisations are eligible.
## ➡️ Application Process
Applications are accepted in .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, or .pdf format, not exceeding 20MB. Macros, zip files, and password protection are prohibited. The selection process is either Targeted Competitive or Restricted Competitive.
