Summary and scope

Ports North (the Principal) is a Queensland Government Owned Corporation (GOC) responsible for the development and management of the declared Ports of Cairns, Cape Flattery, Karumba, Mourilyan, Skardon River, Quintell Beach, Thursday Island, Burketown and Cooktown. Ports North’s operations and facilities are vital to the economic development of the regional centres they service and the State's tourism and export performance.Wharves 1-5 and the Wharf 6 Taper in the Port of Cairns were constructed prior to 1915 and are heritage listed. The wharves have a long history of maintenance and repairs. As part of the ongoing Maintenance Strategy for the Heritage Wharves multiple piles, beams and deck soffit areas have been identified as requiring structural repairs.
