Summary and scope
The Codex Committee on Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification Systems (CCFICS) has been hosted and chaired by Australia since 1992. The committee is held under the auspices of the Joint Food Programme of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and World Health Organisation (WFHO). The committee develops internationally agreed pricinples and guidelines for food import and export insection and certification systems with a view to harmonising methods and procedures which contribute to the protection of the health of consumers and facilitate international trade in foodstuffs. The ongoing work of CCFICS provides an important avenue for countries and international gorvernmental and non-government organisations to discuss issues related to food safety and quality and international trade.
