16/6/2026 11:00 AM AET The City of Sydney invites Requests for Tender for the carrying out of Head Contractor Services for the conservation of the metal sculptures of the Tank Stream Fountain in accordance with this request. The Tank Stream Fountain designed by Australian sculptor Stephen Walker is located in Herald Square at the eastern corner of George Street and Alfred Street, near Circular Quay. The fountain was commissioned in 1979 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the founding of The Sydney Herald newspaper in 1831 and was presented to the City by John Fairfax and Sons Limited in April 1981. The successful tenderer will be required to undertake conservation works to the sculptures and plaques. The successful tenderer will be required to work with the City and the fountain's Maintenance Contractor to restore the metal sculptures and prepare conservation and maintenance reports for this work. Notes: Bidders are strongly encouraged to visit the fountain before making a submission. The fountain will be turned off and the pools drained on 25 May 2026 between the hours of 10:00am and 2:00pm. Tenderers can visit at their own convenience and must take their own precautions upon visiting the site. Any proposed contract amendments need to be submitted no later than 10 business days prior to the Closing Date of the RFT for consideration by the City.
