Summary and scope

The District Council of Elliston invites submissions from suitably qualified professional practising South Australian artists or artist teams for the design and delivery of a permanent, site-specific mural at the RSL Memorial Building, 34 Beach Terrace, Elliston. The project seeks to create a high-quality public artwork that thoughtfully reflects the building’s dual history as an RSL Memorial Building and former kindergarten, while contributing to Elliston’s established collection of public murals. The artwork should be distinctly connected to Elliston and draw upon locally verified stories, community history and the building’s continuing role within the community. Artists may propose a treatment for one or more identified external wall areas of the building. The successful concept will be expected to sensitively recognise themes of service, sacrifice and remembrance alongside childhood, learning, care, family and connection across generations. The artwork should complement Elliston’s existing township murals through its quality, storytelling, scale and sense of place, while retaining an original artistic identity.
