Summary and scope
The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) is authorised under the Road Safety Act 1986 to issue heavy vehicle licences to qualified applicants. It also has the discretionary power to delegate that authorisation to 'Accredited Providers'.Since 1992, DTP has managed an accredited provider scheme for the training and assessment of heavy vehicle drivers. To enable this process, DTP manages an accredited Scheme that provides for state-wide ready access to a comprehensive training and assessment program for heavy vehicle drivers.
