Summary and scope
ACTCS is committed to ensuring that detainees at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) have access to meaningful education and training programs that support their rehabilitation and reintegration into the community. One such initiative is the provision of Traffic Control Training, which is currently being delivered at the AMC through simple purchase orders. This training equips detainees with essential skills and certifications—such as the use of stop/slow batons and understanding traffic management protocols—that are directly applicable to employment opportunities in the construction and civil works sectors. By building on the skills acquired during their time in custody, the course enhances detainees’ employability and supports their transition into the workforce upon release. It is imperative that ACTCS continues to offer this training, as it provides detainees with the knowledge and competencies required to work safely in environments where traffic control is necessary, including roadworks, infrastructure projects, and public event management.
