Summary and scope

Toowoomba Regional Council is currently constructing a new Principal Depot facility at Charlton. The Principal Depot will consolidate a number of Council branches from throughout the region into one central depot facility. As part of the Principal Depot Facility a stores building will be constructed to provide storage and archival support to the stakeholder branches within the facility. The stores building will be the receival point for all deliveries to site, as well as a central store for the entire site, providing storage, archival services and a supply of day to day equipment to each section or branch across the whole site. It will include pallet racking, smaller item shelving, chemical storage, specialised humidity-controlled storage, work and charging areas for warehouse equipment and activities, self-serve and sign library areas accessible to outside staff, a pickup area and amenities for stores staff. The site layout comprises a 1,820m2 floor area, with a height of 7.8m at the eaves and 12.1m at the ridgeline. The allowable storage height is 10m. The internal storage will also include a 110m2 mezzanine to house smaller parts and materials. Attached to the building is an undercover storage area of 630m2. Construction of the stores building is currently underway, to be completed in January 2020. On completion, the fit-out of the racking and shelving systems will commence in order for stock to be relocated to site in early April 2020 in readiness for staff to begin working from site in May 2020.
