Summary and scope
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST The Carmichael Rail Network is undertaking a range of geotechnical studies to obtain detailed information to support the design of the earthworks formation and bridges for the green-field Carmichael Rail Network in Central Queensland. The objective of the investigations is to characterise the site for engineering design and construction purposes by undertaking the following activities: • Performing an assessment of the subsurface materials at the proposed location for embankments, foundations and potential quarries; • Performing an assessment of the useability of the excavated material for earthworks as general fill, structural fill, and sub-ballast capping materials for the earthworks formations, and • Monitoring the ground water level at borehole locations for input to the engineering design. The geotechnical studies shall be carried out in three stages: Stage 1 – Site investigations: Provision of labour and equipment to perform the field investigations including approximately 50 test pits and 60 boreholes. Packing and transport of collected samples. Stage 2 - Laboratory testing: Conducting a laboratory testing program using a certified laboratory to provide sufficient information for detailed engineering design. Test types will include compaction testing, triaxial strength tests, minimum and maximum densities, and rock abrasion tests. Stage 3 – Factual reporting: Based on the field investigation and laboratory investigation results, creating a model of the subsurface profile to identify and classify the rock and soil types and to provide the ground conditions and parameters for detailed design purposes. It shall be noted that this is an EOI only and the detailed scope of work shall be provided during the tender phase.
