Summary and scope
Maintenance dredging is required in sections of the Pelican Point Grand Canals to maintain the design depths of -1.7mAHD. The design is based on the pumping of material (~1,500m3) into large geotextile tubes, dewatering, and the subsequent removal of the dried material from the site. The maintenance dredging works require the establishment of the dewatering site and offsite carting following the dewatering period. Dredge areas are identified in both the Northern and Southern Canals. Maintenance dredging in the Southern Canals is considered provisional at this stage, as it requires the establishment of an additional dewatering site. The material is primarily composed of silt and contains some elements of clay and sand. Field and laboratory testing confirmed material is generally clean with the presence of Potential Acid Sulphate Soils (PASS). An Acid Sulphate Soil Management Plan has been developed in response.
