Summary and scope
The City of Bunbury requires the services of an experienced Consultant&/Contractor to design and construct a Fibre Reinforced Polymer platform footbridge to replace the existing steel pedestrian foot bridge on 5 Mile Brook outlet on Ocean Drive/Hayward St round-a-bout. The existing bridge is in excess of 30 years old and has come to the end of its useful life. Recent condition inspections have found the bridge steel to be excessively rusted. The abutment stone works needs strengthening. Works to adequately stabilise the abutments to accommodate the weight of another foot bridge is restrictive. A Fibreglass Reinforced Polymer (FRP) suspended footbridge will be constructed to span the 5 Mile Brook outlet and be set back sufficiently to sit on strip footings outside the point of influence to the banks. It is envisioned the FRP bridge would be approximately 18m long and have 2.5m between railing. The pedestrian railing will be designed to the Australian Standards and cyclist friendly both side of the beam. The existing steel structure will be removed, and the stone walls repaired, and all cracks repointed.
