Summary and scope
In line with the Master Plan and Queens Park & Botanical Gardens Conservation Management Plan, Queens Park Development aims to provide an overall vision and design for the park that will create a quality community regional recreation park with appropriate and sufficient park facilities, while conserving and promoting the layered history of the park. Queens Park is Toowoomba's largest and most significant formal park. It maintains a strong sense of heritage, including valuable tree specimens and avenues (some of which date back to 1879). This heritage significance was recognized by the State in 2001 when the park was included on the State Heritage Register as a place of Cultural Heritage Significance (QHR No: 601607). Queens Park is located at 43-73 Lindsay Street, Toowoomba and accessed from Lindsay Street, Margaret Street, Hume Street and Godsall Street. The park occupies Lot 179 on D361160. The existing Vera Lacaze amenities block has reached its end of useful life, and is planned for demolition, with a new amenities building to be constructed in its place. In line with the Queens Park Master Plan, the new amenities building has been designed to better align with current standards and provide accessibility improvements for the facilities in this area of the park.
