Summary and scope
The Active and Healthy Bundaberg Program aims to increase physical activity in adults aged 25-35 experiencing socio-economic disadvantage, with a particular focus on female engagement. Participants begin by undertaking an independent health assessment, which informs the development of a customised health and wellbeing ‘script’. Over the course of a 12-week program, participants attend workshops and consultations facilitated by local service providers that cover three principal areas of physical health, nutrition, and mental wellbeing. The goal is to increase physical activity levels, supported by proper nutrition and complementary aspects of wellbeing that assist with positive behaviour change. Council is seeking to develop a model whereby service providers collaborate as part of a network of health and wellbeing ‘champions’ to bring about changes not only in how people perceive and participate in physical activity, but also the supporting factors (i.e., nutrition, behaviour change, mental wellbeing) that influence this perception. The project intends to leverage the strong local network of providers and a range of existing programs to deliver positive health outcomes. The objective is to deliver a full-service program, with the support of expert local providers, that encourages physical activity by better integrating service providers and their offerings. Successful respondents to this tender will form a panel of providers spanning all three areas of physical, nutritional, and mental wellbeing, and will be responsible for delivering program activities. It is expected that two separate cohorts of 24 individuals (48 participants total) will enter the 12-week program (at separate times). Depending on participants’ individualised health and wellbeing assessments and scripts, participants will have the choice to select panel-appointed providers to accommodate their health and wellbeing needs.
