Summary and scope

The Moranbah Community Centre IT infrastructure is no longer fit for purpose, with the residents of Moranbah and surrounds (including industry) requiring a multifunctional centre that can service a multitude of needs. The Centre is currently used as a location to hold receptions, business events, and other community functions, however the spaces are not multi-purpose and are not well equipped, resulting in poor internet or Audio-Visual connection. The Community therefore lacks a space where they can perform business, learning/ training, or personal functions. The intention is to upgrade the Community Centre through a full internal and external renovation in line with a well-researched master plan and to provide connectivity and AV facilities. This will ensure the community has a space where a variety of events can be held including industry events, trainings, conferences, or where various groups can gather. In this digital age, and with travel restrictions currently in place, it’s critical that the community has a place that enables connection to virtual meetings, conferences or trainings, and that has high speed internet to enable the conducting of business, creation of innovation, and the provision of learning and reskilling as part of the transition to Industry 4.0 futures. By upgrading the Community Centre, all members of the community would benefit from the improvement in facilities. It is proposed that this upgrade occur in two stages: (1) the upgrades to the IT and AV equipment and facilities to ensure the Centre is fully functioning; and (2) the physical renovation works (both internal and external). Through this request for VRF funding, the IRC is seeking support for Phase 1 – the upgrade to IT and AV equipment and facilities.
