Summary and scope
The City of Bunbury (City) are investigating the feasibility of building an ocean pool at Wyalup Rocky Point, located north of the Bunbury Back Beach. An ocean pool in this location would provide members of the public with a safe swimming location on this rugged and potentially hazardous section of coastline. The scope of this geotechnical work shall include as a minimum the following. • Desktop review of available information for the site. • Site investigations to ascertain the geological and geomorphological conditions at the site, including the surface level and conditions of the basalt in the area of the proposed pool, soil types and properties, • Laboratory analysis. • Stability assessments of the anticipated cut rock slopes. • Assessment of other relevant geotechnical issues that may affect the development. • A geotechnical report outlining the scope of work completed, the ground conditions encountered including groundwater where relevant, and providing recommendations relating to earthworks, site preparation, excavatability, cut slope stability, design parameters for retention systems, bearing capacity for shallow foundations and site / subsoil classification. The report shall include a section discussing Terrestrial Environment Quality (EPA) guidelines. Also comment on the potential for other relevant geotechnical issues that may affect the proposed development. It is expected that the investigations will include a combination of boreholes, CPT’s and test pits and appropriate sampling.
