Summary and scope
Council Cab services are based on the principles of social inclusion and reducing transport disadvantage, by giving participants independence to live and participate in the community. Some seniors and people with mobility impairment find it difficult to walk to local bus stops and use the bus system. Older drivers also face the possibility of losing their drivers licence if they don’t hold a current medical certificate. Hence, some members of the community are disadvantaged by the limited transport options available and reliance on full-fare taxi trips. A Council Cab Subsidy Scheme offers an alternative transport service to allow eligible people to travel to and from their local shops and services at least once a week.
