Summary and scope

The Lofty and Picnic Point water supply regions are situated in the east-north eastern area of Toowoomba City. The Eastern Trunk Main delivers water pumped from the Lofty Pump Station (located at Mt Kynoch Water Treatment Plant) to the Lofty Reservoir. Investigations had previously been undertaken that assessed the capacity of TRC's existing water network and the ability of the network to cope with future growth for the planning horizons incorporated in the Local Government Infrastructure Plan. These investigations assessed the Mt Lofty and Picnic Point water supply regions (including Murphy's Creek) in relation to hydraulic capacity and quality (chlorine residual) and options were provided to resolving any system shortcomings. A bushfire hazard assessment was also undertaken as part of the investigation. This assessment involved undertaking a system analysis to assess the provision of network capability to fight bushfires & also provided recommendations on works to be undertaken to ensure that Council's service standards for Medium or High-Risk bushfire zones are maintained.
