Summary and scope

Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC) seeks the services of plant and equipment suppliers to remove the soil stockpile at Park Avenue Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) to Lochlees landfill site. The soil stockpile is estimated to be 3000m³ in volume and originated from onsite excavations during the construction of the chlorine contact tank and effluent bypass pipe. Council commissioned a contaminated land investigations as required by the relevant provisions of the Environmental Protections Act 1994 (EP Act). The findings of the investigation indicated that the stockpile presented a low but potential contamination risk due to the potential for asbestos containing fragments which could not be identified during sampling being present. The landfill will accept the soil provided that the material is screened and free from physical contaminants including building material and significant coarse fragments.
