Summary and scope
Balranald Shire Council is undertaking a comprehensive redevelopment of the Bidgee Haven Residential Aged Care Facility to enhance the quality of care and infrastructure for residents and staff. The scope of works includes the supply and construction of a purpose-built six-bed memory (dementia) care wing, designed to provide a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for residents requiring specialised care. The project also encompasses the construction of a new laundry and pan room to improve operational efficiency and hygiene standards. A full redevelopment of the commercial kitchen will be undertaken to meet contemporary food service requirements and regulatory compliance, ensuring the delivery of high-quality meals to residents. All existing 14 resident rooms will be refurbished to improve comfort, accessibility, and aesthetics, aligning with modern aged care standards. Management and administration offices will also be refurbished to support improved workflow, staff wellbeing, and service delivery. The redevelopment includes a complete upgrade of essential building services, including electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, fire protection, nurse call, and security systems. These upgrades are critical to ensuring the facility meets current safety codes, operational reliability, and future-proofing requirements. This project reflects Council’s commitment to delivering high-quality aged care services and infrastructure for the Balranald community. Works will be staged to minimise disruption to residents and staff, with all construction activities to be undertaken in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, aged care regulations, and workplace health and safety requirements. It is anticipated that all construction works will be completed by January 2027 or sooner.
