Summary and scope

The Ipswich Hospital Transit Lounge is set to undergo a significant expansion to meet the growing demands of the local population and to alleviate pressure on the hospital’s busy emergency department. This project is part of a broader initiative to improve access to health services and enhance patient care.The proposed upgrade will increase the Transit Lounge’s capacity from its current five beds and eight chairs to ten beds and fourteen chairs with extended operating hours, including weekend and public holiday services.The Transit Lounge provides safe, timely care for patients awaiting admission, transfer, or discharge. Key functions include:- Facilitating discharges and admissions: Managing Inter-Hospital Transfers (IHTs) and providing monitored spaces for patients awaiting transport.- Supporting QAS transport: Monitoring patients awaiting Queensland Ambulance Services (QAS) transport to homes or other facilities.
