Summary and scope
The Perth Watch House (PWH) is the Western Australia Police Force’s principal site for the detention of arrested persons awaiting their first appearance in court. The PWH may at times also manage persons awaiting extradition to other states in Australia or who have been arrested on outstanding warrants. These persons in custody are arrested for numerous reasons and may present with a range of physical and/or mental conditions, including alcohol and/or drug intoxication and/or suffering from a mental health illness or underlying medical condition.
