Project: Tully Battery Energy Storage System Project owner: RWE Tully Battery Australia Pty Ltd Location: QLD Australia Work package status: Open Scope: Full Scope Work package description: Supply of traffic controllers and signage to suit the final approved Traffic Guidance Scheme for the Tully BESS Project located at Sandy Creek Road Tully. Project overview: The Tully Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a greenfield Battery Energy Storage System project being developed near Tully, Far North Queensland. The Tully BESS will improve energy security and reliability particularly during, extreme weather or peak demand periods.RWE has submitted a Development Application (DA) to Cassowary Coast Regional Council (CCRC) for the BESS in September 2025. RWE is currently updating the DA in accordance with the new Queensland Government BESS planning law changes that came into effect on Friday, 12 December 2025 . The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) has determined that the Tully BESS is a "Not a Controlled Action" under the EPBC Act. This decision means the Tully BESS project does not require further assessment or and approval under the EPBC Act. The project is in the project development phase, with planning, environmental, transmission studies well advanced and ongoing stakeholder and community engagement underway.The primary components of the Project will consist of the following: Up to 188 battery units and perimeter access track around BESS units. Inverters may be incorporated as part of the battery units or there may be separate Power Conversion Units (PCU). 132/33 kV high-voltage Switching station, transformer, switchgear, an auxiliary transformer, two 33 kV switch rooms and potentially harmonic filters. Grid connection will be via an 500 metre overhead transmission line by five (5) single circuit 132 kV concrete poles approximately, An Asset Protection Zone (APZ). Two lightning arrestors. An acoustic wall of 6m in height has been included with the design (if required). Stormwater drainage systems. 40,000 litre Water Tank. Security Fence and Lighting.
