Summary and scope
This Request for Proposals (RFP) seeks innovative, commercially viable non transmission solutions to help manage growing electricity demand in the Western Bay of Plenty. Transpower is inviting proposals for firm, reliable demand side or supply side options—such as demand response, battery storage, embedded generation, or similar technologies—that can deliver up to 20 MW at Tauranga by winter 2030 and/or 10 MW at Te Matai by winter 2031. With rapid regional growth expected to push peak loads beyond network limits, this RFP forms part of Transpower’s approved programme to defer or replace major transmission investment while maintaining reliability and value for consumers. Interested providers are encouraged to review the full RFP and submit a proposal via GETS.
