Project: Reeves Plains Energy Hub Project owner: ALINTA ENERGY (REEVES PLAINS) PTY LTD Location: SA Australia Work package status: Open Scope: Full Scope Work package description: Reeves Plains Energy Hub is undertaking a marketing evaluation to procure suitably capable, qualified local and regional businesses who have the ability to provide the following Water treatment plant (supply and install) services for the Reeves Plains Energy Hub project. Reeves Plains Energy Hub has selected specific expression of interest categories for businesses to ensure the best chance of evaluating the marketplace and recognising where local and regional business can assist into the project. This expression of interest is for all suppliers who have an Australian Business Number (ABN), and are suitably capable for the following items (below): Supply, install and commission water treatment plant Management and maintenance of the water treatment plant Project overview: Alinta Energy is developing an energy hub at Reeves Plains, located about 50 minutes drive north of Adelaide. The Reeves Plains Energy Hub is a significant development aimed at enhancing South Australia's energy security and grid stability.As Australia transitions to net zero, the energy hub will help provide reliable and stable supply into the grid.The project is now in the construction phase of Stage 1 of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)Further information about the project is available on the website - Reeves Plains Energy HubCommunity updates can be found here.Battery Energy Storage SystemThe battery system provides electricity storage capacity and will ensure a reliable supply. The project will be built in two stages:Stage 1: 250 MW battery with four hours of storage.Stage 2: Additional 250 MW battery with a further hours of storage capacity, totalling 500 MW of capacity.Each stage will include approximately 194 battery modules and 89 inverters, housed in prefabricated outdoor enclosers.Additionally, there will be an underground 33kV electrical connection, four switch rooms, two step-up transformers, and a new substation. Other project elements include water storage, office and control room, vegetated site screening, as well as fencing and lighting.Alinta Energy is targeting a commencement of construction for Stage 1 in early 2026.You can register your interest in high level works packages for the BESS below.Gas Power StationThe power station will provide backup for renewables as coal-fired generation retires. It would be available 24/7, making it ideal for managing short-term electricity demand spikes. The project will include gas turbine structures, a cooling pond, water tanks, an office and control room, vegetated site screening, as well as fencing and lighting.The gas-fired power station is at an advanced stage of development, and the project team is working through procurement and financing options.
