Project: Kangwinan Project Project owner: RIO TINTO LIMITED Location: QLD Australia Work package status: Open Scope: Full Scope Work package description: ICN hereby invites Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from relevant trade contractors and suppliers for Miscellaneous Trades on the Kangwinan Project. All EOI submissions should be made through the ICN Gateway. Project overview: The Kangwinan Project is located in Norman Creek, Cape York Peninsula, approximately 60 km South of Weipa. The Bauxite process plant will be constructed on the Southern side of the Norman Creek and then transported approximately 15 km southeast via overland conveyor to the existing Amrun stockyard.Proposed project components include:Bauxite Beneficiation PlantTruck Dump StationTailing Storage FacilityDeep Artesian BoresProcess Water PondCrude Ore Overland ConveyorProduct StackerStacking BermExtension of the seaward end of the existing Chith export facilityWharf DeckShip loading ConveyorNew Berth & Shiploader Rail ExtensionNew Sealed Access RoadExpansion of Permanent AccommodationProcess Water Supply InfrastructurePump StationHDPE PipelineNon-process infrastructure (warehouse, operations facilities, fixed plant & heavy mining equipment (HME) workshops, fuel bunkering, etc.,Rio Tinto has appointed Bechtel Australia Pty Ltd as the project Engineering, Procurement and Construction Manager (EPCM). All major agreements will be made directly with Rio Tinto.DELIVERY SCHEDULEDuring 2025, Rio Tinto is undertaking a detailed feasibility study on the Project that will inform a final investment decision by the Rio Tinto board of directors. Board decision is expected to be received in the late 2026. Future procurement decisions are dependent on board's approval.
