Project: Tungkillo BESS Project Project owner: IBERDROLA AUSTRALIA LIMITED/ENERVEN ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE Location: SA Australia Work package status: Open Scope: Full Scope Work package description: Detailed civil comprises the detailed design, supply, and construction of all civil infrastructure required to support the battery energy storage system installation. The Tungkillo Civil Works Package covers the design and construction of underground cable trenching required to support power, control, and communications reticulation across the BESS site, including trench excavation to specified depths and widths in accordance with cable manufacturer and design specifications, bedding and backfill (sand bedding, cable marker tape, and compacted fill in trafficable and non-trafficable areas), installation of conduits and duct banks for HV, LV, and fibre/comms cabling, trench reinstatement to match surrounding surface conditions (hardstand, access road, or landscaped areas), and coordination of trench routes to avoid clashes with existing services and foundations. Project overview: The Tungkillo BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) site is located approximately 40 km east of Adelaide and 8.5 km east of Mount Torrens, on Peramangk Country within the Mid Murray Council local government area (LGA). Location: Electronet Road, Tungkillo (6 km south of Tungkillo township) Capacity: Up to 270 MW supplying up to 1,080 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage capacity. Connection to: the adjacent ElectraNet Tungkillo substation via a new 275 kV overhead cable. Transmission line: approximately 700 metres Once complete, it will play an important role in supporting more renewables into the South Australian network and helping keep the system stable as supply and demand shift throughout the day.
