Project overview: About the Destroyer Capability Enhancement program:The SEA4000 Phase 3 Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) Project delivered three Hobart Class Destroyers (DDGs) and their Support System, with the last DDG commissioned in May 2020. In order to ensure the DDG capability can continue to operate within a dynamic maritime environment, the DDG platform will undergo a series of capability updates, upgrades and sustainment driven engineering changes. Collectively this is known as the Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) and will occur over the next decade at the Osborne Naval Shipyard.The Destroyer Capability Enhancement program forms part of the realisation of the Future Maritime Sustainment Model under Plan Galileo; released by the Department of Defence in 2019. The Maritime Sustainment Model is a fleet-wide, whole-of-life approach to sustainment to increase efficiency and minimise duplication across the Australian naval maritime domain.The DCE program will be delivered at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in Osborne, South Australia. The three DDGs will be upgraded in series, commencing in mid-2025 with HMAS Hobart.This presents opportunities for subcontractors across a range of capabilities including (but not limited to) electrical, outfit, support services, fabrication, insulation, mechanical, machining and platform maintenance.
