Summary and scope
As a part of the project Martinus requires updated imagery to assist with design, LiDAR for the noise assessment 200m either side of the main line alignment and LiDAR in areas that require flood study assessments. What is LiDAR? LiDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging. It is a remote sensing method that uses light in the form of pulsed laser beams to measure distance to the Earth. In the case of airborne platforms, light pulse travel times are recorded by the sensor and then processed together with accurate information from GNSS and the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to generate precise, 3-D point data. These points are used to derive secondary datasets such as contours and terrain models, which are used to examine the elevation, shape and characteristics of the Earth's natural and built surface, including buildings, ground and vegetation height.
