Summary and scope
The Public Transport Authority (PTA) of Western Australia requires to address identified safety and access risks associated with inspection and maintenance activities on railway bridge assets. The majority of existing bridge configurations occupy the full width of the structure, providing limited or no refuge space for maintenance personnel during train operations. This presents a significant safety risk to workers undertaking inspection and maintenance activities. Current access arrangements predominantly rely on static line systems and temporary scaffolding. In several locations, these systems are approaching end of life and do not fully comply with current Australian Standards. Additionally, their use necessitates track closures, restricting maintenance activities to non-operational train hours and creating increased operational constraints and inefficiencies.
