Summary and scope
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council and Variety - The Children’s Charity NSW/ACT (VNSW) have formed a partnership to deliver an inclusive playspace at Albert Park in Cootamundra. The playspace will be known as Variety Livvi’s Place Albert Park. It will offer a unique and inclusive play experience, promoting play for everyone. Albert Park is located across the street from the Cootamundra Railway Station, approximately 380 kilometres west south west of Sydney in the Local Government Area of Cootamundra-Gundagai. The park is located approximately 500m from the main street of Cootamundra (considered walking distance at around 5 minutes) and is surrounded by low density housing on three sides, with a major road and the train station on one side. The park contains a cricket oval and an impressive collection of mature native and exotic trees. There is currently a small amount of dated play infrastructure and little support features such as seating, picnic amenity or paths around the park. There is an existing toilet block on the edge of the park opposite the train station. As a result of community engagement, there is a desire for the space to be activated and accessible for more families to enjoy. Nature and water play are highly favoured activities identified in the consultation, along with adventure and imaginative play. As a result, the design concept for the playspace is “The Magic in the Trees”, with a custom, accessible tree fort the centrepiece of the design. A sand and water play area compliment extensive paths through nature play features throughout the expansive, fenced space. Council requires a suitably experienced contractor to construct the playspace per the drawings and as part of the process, to provide shop drawings for the fort and ramp, the water and sand play, the entrance wayfinding sign and the brush tent. The scope of works includes site preparation and establishment; bulk earthworks; drainage; hardworks including pavements; edges; furniture and fixtures including seating; picnic settings and shelters; bins; playground facilities including safety softfall surfaces; play equipment; signage including a custom-made sign. The work site will be managed by Council and some works will be completed by Council staff, including fencing, construction of earth mounds and softworks including planting, mulching, soil works and turf.
