Summary and scope

Council invites tenders for the Saraji Road and Peak Downs Mine Road Intersection Upgrade. The intersection between Saraji Road and Peak Downs Mine Road is located at the entrance of Peak Downs Coal Mine and is currently a T-intersection. Priority is given to vehicles travelling on Peak Downs Mine Road and vehicles entering or leaving Peak Downs Coal Mine. With traffic volumes forecast to increase over the next 20 years a Road Safety Audit (RSA) was conducted, and the existing intersection has been deemed unsafe. A Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) followed. The Isaac Regional Council (IRC) has identified the need to upgrade the intersection between Saraji Road and Peak Downs Mine Road to ensure that the intersection is safe for use. The RSA and TIA were used to determine the scope and design requirements for the intersection upgrade. The Peak Downs Coal Mine Access will become the minor leg of the new intersection and the Peak Downs Coal Mine access will be controlled by a stop sign. IRC requires a suitable Contractor to undertake the construction of the new intersection.
