Summary and scope

Council is upgrading a parcel of public riverside reserve on the Georges River in Illawong which will include a new picnic area, car park, boating facilities and environmental restoration. Known as Old Ferry Road Reserve, the reserve has 80m of water frontage and is a site of unique heritage significance being the location of a former ferry crossing that operated between Lugarno and Illawong from 1887 to 1974. The site is undeveloped and in very poor condition but after many years of environmental and design investigations, the site is ready for the construction of a public reserve for water-based recreation opportunities. Council is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced organisation for provision of the development of the riverside reserve, Old Ferry Road Reserve. The project involves the construction of a new picnic area, car park and boating facilities on the edge of the Georges River. The site also requires extensive environmental remediation and foreshore improvements. The project covers a broad range of construction disciplines including: • Construction of a turfed picnic area with seating, footpaths and landscaping • Construction of a car park with 14 single car spaces • Installation of a fixed wharf allowing temporary pull-in for boats • Installation of a kayak launching ramp • Construction of new sandstone boulder sea walls with pockets for intertidal salt marsh • Water sensitive urban design components • Bush regeneration and foreshore restoration The project offers a rare opportunity to transform a degraded site into a scenic riverside reserve for the benefit of the community and environment. Council is looking forward to progressing this potentially award winning project into the construction stage. A detailed client brief outlining the extent of services required by Council is set out in Part 5 of this Tender document.
