Startup grants for early-stage and growing companies

Find grants for early-stage Australian companies, from commercialisation and product development to founder and accelerator programs.

Before you shortlist

Dedicated startup grants are fewer than general business or innovation grants. Many early-stage companies end up funded through innovation, export or small business programs instead, so it pays to watch those categories too.

Eligibility often depends on company age, turnover, Australian incorporation, ownership of the intellectual property and the stage of the product. Matched funding is common, and some programs pay in milestones rather than upfront.

Commercialisation
Programs for taking a product or technology to market usually ask for evidence of the opportunity, a project plan and co-funding.
Founder and accelerator programs
Some state programs fund participation in accelerators or early-stage development rather than paying cash directly.
Adjacent categories
Innovation, export and small business grants often have broader eligibility and more frequent rounds than startup-specific programs.

Check before you apply

  • Company age, turnover and incorporation requirements.
  • Ownership of the intellectual property being developed.
  • Matched funding and milestone-based payment terms.
  • Whether the program funds cash grants, services or program places.
